Expat Relocation Overseas

Moving overseas can be stressful. Taking all your belongings with you requires a seamless process and your goods arriving safely is essential. Moving within Europe may only require a man with a van, but if you're moving further afield, specialist firms can collect, wrap and ship your items in containers which can take a couple of months to arrive, depending where you are.

Pet Relocation

When moving pets, staying within Europe is less complicated with the correct documentation. Shorter moving times means you can take your pets with you, but longer distances require more planning, paperwork and permissions. The good news is that moving cats and dogs to Europe is now easier than ever and paperwork can be arranged through a vet.

The criteria for animals vary from country to country, but rabies vaccinations, pet passports, micro-chipping (or ID tattoo) and tapeworm treatment (dogs only) will probably be necessary. Considering if your pet is capable of completing the journey ahead is essential of course, as flying long distances for long periods and experiencing strange environments and noises can cause stress. UK government guidance can be found here.

Prohibited Items

Logistics agents provide a list of items that can cause problems at borders. Prohibited goods include derivatives of protected species such as coral, ivory, reptiles skins and tortoise shell, so check old, unassuming items as they may compromise shipment, as excess meat and dairy products may do.

To learn more about requirements of moving live animals or other items you may not be sure of, visit the UK government or DEFRA website (Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affairs), or contact us and we'll introduce relocation experts that come highly recommended.
